Plasteline model for one of the sixteen fiberglass polyester resin laminate reliefs for the Ford Rotunda, Dearborn, Michigan depicting industries related to the manufacture of automobiles.
The sixteen reliefs won the Gold Medal in Sculpture from the Architectural League of New York in 1956.
The Ford Rotunda was destroyed by fire in 1962.

Description
An account of the resource
The Henry J. McMorran Auditorium in Port Huron, Michigan commissioned the Night and Day Fountain as well as a gold anodized aluminum Sculptured Clock for the building. Completed two years before the fountain’s installation, Fredericks conceived the sculptures and clock as a unified design concept.
In keeping with a long tradition in western art, the sculptor personified time with figures representing night and day. Night possesses long, smooth, graceful curves. Night floats upon a swan in flight, holding a small bird in her hand.
In comparison to Night, Day is more angular with more pronounced muscles and veins in his arms and hands. Day rests upon an otter which is hunting in a school of Northern pike.

Description
An account of the resource
In this full-scale model, Fredericks portrays Eastern culture with a god identified as Buddha. Leaning over his shoulder is the monkey god, Hanuman, who symbolizes loyalty, courage and strength.
In the center of the sculpture is the elephant-headed god Ganesh. To his left are two figures kneeling in prayer. The head and neck of a bull form the left end of the sculpture. Considered a sacred animal in India, Hindus view the bull as a symbol of fertility and plenty.
Fredericks gained appreciation of Indian culture while stationed in India during World War II.

Description
An account of the resource
The Eaton Manufacturing Company in Cleveland, Ohio commissioned this memorial in honor of the employees who died in World War II. A marble wall inscribed with the names of those employees who gave their lives for their country holds the bronze relief.
The eagle is the most prominent element. The simplified details of the eagle's body and feathers are typical of Fredericks’ style.
The face and obverse of the medallion are visible in the relief. The eagle’s talons grasp an olive branch and arrows signifying a capacity for both peace and war. On the obverse of the medallion, encircling the inscription is a laurel branch on the left and an oak branch on the right. These signify victory and strength.
Fredericks also designed a medallion for the Eaton Manufacturing Corporation in 1948.

The Marshall M. Fredericks Collection consists of 200 linear feet of materials, including:
Correspondence: (13 linear feet) including personal, foreign ministry, and general correspondence as well as special letters and card received by Fredericks
Project (Job) Files: (7 linear feet) including correspondence between Fredericks and both sculpture commissioning clients and vendors that helped to fabricate the pieces
Subject Files: (24 linear feet) document Fredericks’ civic interests such as Disabled Americans’ Denmark meeting (DIADEM), Rebild National Park, and Danish Consular work, as well as fraternal organizations and the Marshall M Fredericks Sculpture Museum
Financial (30 linear feet) document the day-to-day operations of running a studio
Photographs: (25 linear feet) including photographs in a variety of sizes, negatives, and slides relating to Fredericks’ teaching career, projects, civic activities, and personal life

Description
An account of the resource
This delicately balanced sculpture is evidence of Fredericks' expertise in design and structural engineering. The openness and verticality of the composition are very dramatic.
The large gulls appear weightless, held in place only by a wing tip, giving the illusion of flight and movement. Fredericks reinforced the elegance of the composition with the smooth surfaces of the gulls' bodies and wings, only slightly suggesting feathers and other details.
To complete this airy construction, Fredericks utilized lightweight aluminum to cast the gulls for a fountain at the Civic Center and Loutit District Library Plaza in Grand Haven, Michigan.

Description
An account of the resource
Atop a wooded hill overlooking a small pond in Detroit’s Elmwood Cemetery stands a memorial to the late attorney turned industrialist Alvan Macauley. Commissioned by his wife and son soon after his death in 1952, the sculpture reflects Macauley’s love of nature and wildlife. On a simple granite pedestal sit two bronze geese as they take off into flight. Beneath their bodies, the tips of swamp rushes bend under the weight of the birds’ wings.
According to the sculptor, waterfowl are a symbol of eternal life and this sculpture symbolizes “the ascendency of the soul no longer imprisoned by the body.†It is a fitting memorial to a man said to have deeply appreciated nature and “people who worked with their hands.â€
In addition to its original commission by the Macauley family, Flying Wild Geese also serves as a memorial to two former faculty members at Alma College. Commissioned by an Alma College alumni committee, the sculpture is set on a glacial sandstone pedestal in the college’s Monteith Library mall. At the sculpture’s dedication in 1971, Fredericks stated that “the birds in flight express freedom of inquiry and symbolized Michigan and its environment.â€
Found throughout the United States and the world, Flying Wild Geese is one of Marshall Fredericks’ most popular sculptures. Many corporations, universities, cultural institutions and private individuals have chosen one of these sculptures for their collections.
