The yellowish color on the inside of the mold is from the shellac used to seal the mold. Cast for the Central United Methodist Church in Waterford, Michigan in 1965, this 18' gold anodized aluminum sculpture is comprised of 5 pieces; 4 individual sheep, and the combined Christ, boy and 2 additional sheep. This mold is the boy. The shellac on the surface serves as a releasing agent for making the plaster model. A thin layer of blued plaster is visible beneath the shellac. Rods and piping on the reverse side serve as reinforcements as well as the burlap in the plaster. Splashes of red wax can be seen on the mold because wax models can be made from this mold for the lost wax casting method. The plaster model in its entirety is hanging on the back right side wall of the Main Exhibit Gallery of the museum. The backboard for this piece is in the Sculptor's Studio. A photograph of the finished bronze sculpture can be seen on page 145 in Marshall M. Fredericks, Sculptor.
